What is Wegovy®?
Wegovy® is a once-weekly weight loss injection that’s easy to use with pre-filled pens for self-administration. It contains semaglutide, a GLP-1 hormone mimic that helps control appetite and keep you feeling fuller for longer, making it easier to lose weight.
For the best results, Wegovy® should be used alongside a healthy, lower-calorie diet and regular exercise.
Who is eligible for Wegovy?
You may be eligible for a Wegovy prescription if you meet one of the following criteria:
A BMI of 30 or higher
A BMI of 27 or higher with a weight-related medical condition, such as high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease.
Wegovy isn’t suitable for everyone. You should not take Wegovy if you are:
allergic to any of its ingredients.
pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
breastfeeding.
If you have pancreas or heart problems, your doctor will evaluate whether Wegovy is a good fit for you. A prescription will only be provided if it is deemed safe and suitable for your medical condition.
How it Works
Wegovy’s active ingredient, semaglutide, mimics the natural GLP-1 hormone that regulates appetite. By targeting receptors in the brain, it helps curb cravings and reduce hunger. Combined with a lower-calorie diet and regular physical activity, Wegovy helps promote effective weight loss.
How Effective Is Wegovy®?
Clinical trials show that Wegovy® (2.4 mg dose) leads to significant weight loss when combined with a healthy diet and exercise:
85% of people lost at least 5% of their body weight
66% lost at least 10%
50% lost 15% or more
On average, Wegovy® users lost 14.9% of their body weight over 68 weeks compared to 2.4% in the placebo group.
How to Take Wegovy®
Wegovy® is injected once a week under the skin, with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each week for consistency. Each Wegovy® pen contains 4 doses, lasting 4 weeks before you need a new pen.
Always double-check that you have the correct dose and medication before injecting, especially if you use other injectable treatments.
How to Inject Wegovy®
Follow the patient information leaflet for full instructions, including diagrams, and any advice from your doctor. The steps below are a general guide:
✅ Check your medication – Ensure you have the correct dose and that the liquid is clear and colourless.
✅ Prepare the pen – Remove the cap and attach a new needle for each weekly dose.
✅ Perform a flow check (only the first time using a new pen).
✅ Set the dose - Turn the dose selector until it matches your prescription.
✅ Choose an injection site - Stomach, upper legs, or upper arms (rotate sites weekly).
✅ Inject at a straight angle - Ensure you can see the dose counter while injecting.
✅ Dispose of the needle - Place it in a sharps bin and store the pen safely for future doses.
✅ Log your dose - Keep track of when you last took Wegovy® and set a reminder for the next one.
Where to Inject Wegovy®
Wegovy® should be injected under the skin (subcutaneous injection) in one of these areas:
✔ Stomach (abdomen)
✔ Upper legs (thighs)
✔ Upper arms
Rotate injection sites each week to prevent irritation or soreness.
Wegovy® Dosage Schedule
Wegovy® comes in 5 dose strengths, starting at a low dose and gradually increasing every 4 weeks to help your body adjust and reduce side effects.
⚠ Important: Do not increase your dose beyond 2.4 mg per week. Always follow your prescribed dosage plan.
What Happens If I Stop Taking Wegovy®?
Wegovy® is not addictive, so you won’t experience withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking it. However, stopping suddenly may lead to weight regain, so it's best to speak with our clinical team before discontinuing the treatment.
What If I Miss a Dose of Wegovy®?
If it's been 5 days or less → Take the missed dose as soon as you remember and continue with your usual schedule.
If it's been more than 5 days → Skip the missed dose and wait until your next scheduled injection. Do not take a double dose.
If you miss multiple doses, speak with our clinical team, as you may need to restart at a lower dose to minimize side effects.
